How many of our daily tasks and our possessions been consolidated into one single system? There was once a time when we used a CD player to listen to music, wrote a letter to contact a friend and went to the library to find out about a specific topic. We can still do all of those things of course, but now we also have the option of doing them all under the same machine. Simply turning on a computer opens up a wealth of opportunities. Emails, gaming, music players, movie players, websites, word processors, spreadsheets and video editing; these are just some of the things we can do on a computer – all of which were separate entities in the past (at least in terms of user interface).
The internet has also been a large part of the popularity of computers and this itself is made up of many things we take for granted. We use the internet for emailing and instant messaging, but we can also take part in online banking, online shopping, watching videos, gaming, obtaining news, researching topics and social networking.
The computer has changed the world so much it is difficult to imagine Earth without it.
